Dental crowns can be an effective form of restorative dental treatment especially for those who have badly damaged teeth.  The dental crown helps to restore strength back to the teeth and ease discomfort and can also be used to anchor a dental bridge or aid with a dental implant.

There are various different dental crowns available such as the conventional metal crown which is more visibly noticeable and the least favourite choice for patients. The procedure for placing a dental crown is first the dentist will remove parts of natural tooth structure to make space for crowns. The first stage of the procedure includes preparing your teeth for the dental crown by taking an impression of your teeth which will be sent to the lab where your dental crown will be created.

Dental crowns normally take up to two weeks to be made as it is individually catered for your teeth by using the impression as a mould. A temporary crown will be put in place each time you visit the dentist until your permanent crowns are ready. The second stage of the procedure involves the temporary crown being removed and the customised dental crown will be fitted on to your teeth.
